Just before last weekend, a police officer discovered an auto wrecker with no working rear brakes on the A1(M) in Cambridgeshire.

On Friday night (May 6), K&N motorcycle riders stopped the enormous green vehicle, which they believed to be a Mercedes Sprinter, and escorted it to a weighbridge off the main road.

The lorry was discovered to be overweight by more than 50 percent, 62% on the back axle, when it was weighed at Sawtry near Huntingdon.

The van’s lack of functioning back brakes was also discovered by officers from the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire Road Policing Unit, who were equally flabbergasted.

The van was taken and the driver was charged with driving infractions.

It was a double whammy for the van driver, who was directed to the weighbridge at Sawtry on Friday.

The vehicle has been seized and the driver was reported.
