Another routine patrol turned into a critical road safety intervention for Staffordshire Police, as Road Policing Officers intercepted a dangerously overweight van travelling on the M6.
The vehicle, which raised suspicions due to its heavily laden appearance, was swiftly escorted off the motorway for further checks. What officers discovered upon inspection was a staggering breach of road safety limits.
After being weighed, the van was found to be an alarming 89.4% over its permitted gross weight. The rear axle alone was overloaded by 92.4%, with the other axle also carrying 29.3% more than it should.
These figures left little room for negotiation. The driver’s actions were deemed a serious misjudgement, prompting officers to issue a prohibition notice on the spot. The vehicle was immobilised – rendered unfit to return to the road – and the driver was formally reported for a court summons.
