Drivers in Grantham were stuck in traffic today due to a reported incident of an insecure load. The incident was reported by the Road Policing Unit (RPU) who had trailed the vehicle through the town.

The RPU noticed that the trailer attached to the vehicle had an insufficiently secure load, which posed a risk for other motorists on the road. As such, they called for traffic control to be put in place until the situation could be resolved. This caused delays throughout Grantham as vehicles were re-routed or stopped completely whilst authorities worked to secure the load safely and efficiently.

The incident serves as a reminder for all drivers and companies of their responsibility when it comes to securing their loads. According to the Department for Transport, all loads must be secured “in such a way that, so far as is reasonably practicable, it is prevented from being thrown off or falling off” whilst on the move. Failing that, drivers can expect hefty fines and points on their licences as punishment – not to mention potential danger and disruption caused as a result of an insecure load.

Today’s traffic delay serves as an important reminder of our responsibility when transporting goods on public roads – no matter how big or small your vehicle may be! Be sure to always check your load is secured properly before setting off and you can help ensure everyone’s safety on our roads. If you need any more information about securing your load, contact your local authority for advice.
