A truck driver was fined and the vehicle prohibited from driving after it was found to be overweight by 29% on an Operational policing unit Warwickshire site. The truck had been brought onto the site due to an insecure load.

According to police, the flatbed truck was almost a third heavier than it should have been. The driver received a ticket and was forced to unload some of his cargo before being allowed back on the road.

The incident serves as a warning for all drivers that secure loads and vehicle weight are taken seriously by law enforcement. In addition to fines, drivers can also face points on their licence or even prison time if they are found guilty of driving overweight vehicles or having an insecure load. Companies can also face fines if they are deemed responsible for unsafe practices that put their employees at risk.
