Driving an overweight vehicle can be dangerous. Not only does it affect braking, steering, fuel economy and overall performance, it can lead to costly fines. That’s why the police are so strict about vehicles not exceeding their maximum authorised mass (MAM). Recently, the Dalkeith Road Policing Unit caught a vehicle driving at 34% above its MAM.

The incident happened on August 3rd when the Dalkeith Road Policing Unit noticed that a certain vehicle looked heavy as it drove past them. After weighing it, they discovered that the vehicle was 34% over its MAM. The driver of the vehicle was issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) for excess weight and will receive points on their licence as well as being fined £100 plus £25 victim surcharge. In addition to this fine, they will also have to pay for any additional costs associated with the penalty such as legal fees or insurance premiums rising due to having points on their licence.

It is important to remember that these penalties are in place for a reason—to ensure everyone’s safety. To avoid being in this situation yourself, make sure your vehicles are properly maintained and regularly checked for any issues that could cause them to exceed their MAM. Failing to do so could result in hefty fines and other penalties from the police or other relevant authorities.

Driving an overweight vehicle can have serious consequences both financially and safety-wise. This recent incident serves as a reminder for both drivers and companies alike—make sure your vehicles are up-to-date and comply with all regulations set out by the police or other relevant authorities in order to avoid hefty fines and points on your licence!
