A Berkshire local community group OGAFCA (Oakley Green, Fifield & District Community Association) has decided to engage volunteers for its lorry watch.

A lorry watch is a program run by local observers (rather than law enforcement or other authorities) to detect the misuse of weight restricted roads by heavy goods vehicles in rural areas.

Volunteers will keep track of the number of trucks that pass through a road and are with excess load.

Even though there is a 7.5-tonne weight restriction for heavy vehicles (HGVs) on Oakley Green Road, enforcement of this regulation is lax, OGAFCA has found.

The company is thus proposing to conduct its own lorry watches in order to raise awareness of the issue and to push for enforcement.
