The van of a Bridport removals firm that was stopped for being overloaded on the M6 near Carlisle has been fined.

The Rickergate court in Birmingham was told that the Saturn Removals Limited truck was stopped on the M6 motorway at Todhills on March 2.

According to the inspection, the Ford vehicle was 52 percent overloaded. The weight was 1,840kg more than the capacity of the loading ramp. The driver involved in the incident also admitted driving the Ford while it was overloaded.

A guilty plea was entered by officials from the company to a violation of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations.

The court subsequently fined the defendant £2,339, including costs of £298 and a victim surcharge of £190, for which a total liability to the court was calculated at £2,827.

Kevin Anthony Cox, aged 47, of Lower Townend, Burton Bradstock, was fined £701, with £298 costs and a £70 victim surcharge.

The prosecution was brought by the Drivers Standards Agency.
