In the course of Operation Tramline, the Operations Patrol Unit (OPU) of Worcestershire intercepted an overloaded Sprinter Van at J4 on M5. It was discovered after a thorough examination that the van was overweight and had a fractured road spring. He was arrested for a bench warrant on behalf of Cheshire Police after he failed to appear for traffic charges in the region.

The permitted weight for a Mercedes Sprinter Van is  3500kg. This van was found to be 4810kg, which is an overweight of more than 1000kg. The consequences of driving an overloaded vehicle are significant and can result in a fine of up to £5000 and/or imprisonment for up to 3 months.

The driver was also found to have a fractured road spring, which is a serious safety issue. Driving with a fractured road spring can lead to the collapse of the axle, which could cause the vehicle to lose control and possibly overturn. This is a very dangerous situation that could have resulted in serious injuries or even death.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody by Worcestershire police. He will be appearing in court in Cheshire to face the traffic charges that he failed to appear for. This is a serious matter that could have had very dangerous consequences. Drivers need to be aware of the dangers of driving overloaded and poorly maintained vehicles.

If you are caught driving an overloaded or poorly maintained vehicle, you could face serious penalties. Always make sure your vehicle is in good condition and does not exceed the maximum weight limit.
