The Kent Police Roads Policing Unit have issued a warning to drivers and companies after catching a scaffold van overloaded on the back end. The unit witnessed the 3.5 tonne van in an unsafe condition and took the necessary action against it

The RPU unit had been patrolling the roads when they noticed something suspicious at the back end of a 3.5 tonne scaffold van that seemed to be unbalanced and had an awkward tilt. Immediately, they knew that this was not safe, so they pulled up behind it and conducted their investigations.

Their suspicions were correct – the vehicle was indeed overloaded on the rear which posed a huge risk to other drivers and pedestrians on the road due to its unstable nature. Axle 2 was 7.3% overloaded, leading to a gross overweight of 830kg , i.e., 23.7%. The driver of the van was immediately fined for their negligence and excess weight was removed from the van before it was allowed to continue driving again

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers out there to double check their vehicles before heading out onto public roads; even if you are just making a quick journey down the street, safety should always come first! Failing to do so could result in serious fines or worse – putting innocent people at risk of harm.
