North Cumbria’s Eden Police caught a truck which was found to be with insecure loads on the road.

On further investigation with the DVSA, it was found that the vehicle had 8 major defects, issuing immediate prohibition and 4 minor defects, subject for delayed prohibition

The truck was also found to be overweight by 310kg.

The vehicle was seized and the driver reported for numerous offences. The operator has been reported to the Traffic Commissioner.

Driving with excess load  is a prosecutable offence and could be fined up to £5000 and 3 points on the licence.

Insecure loads are a danger to other road users and can cause serious injury or death. It is the responsibility of the driver to make sure that their load is secure before setting off on their journey

The DVSA also demanded a full MOT prior to being driven on public roads.

This is a stark reminder to all operators to ensure their vehicles are well maintained and loaded securely, not only for the safety of other road users, but to avoid hefty fines and prohibitions.
