Sussex Roads Police Commercial vehicle unit and DVSA Enforcement carried out a joint operation on A22, Uckfield. Out of the 25 vehicles they stopped, 7 were given prohibitions and 2 of those were overloaded vehicles.

One of those had a dangerous goods offence, while four other vehicles were issued fixed penalties.

At the same time, Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) have been stopping vehicles with abnormal loads. Recently, a vehicle was stopped on M6 J8 to J9 for carrying abnormal loads. On checking, it was found that there was no movement order, and the load was insecure with no attendant. The load was prohibited from moving until a movement order was issued, the load was secured correctly and an attendant was assigned.

Two more abnormal loads were stopped by officers for a check on M6 J7-J6. The loads were wider, longer and taller than the detailed measurements in movement order. The loads were moving during their notification period, before the permitted time. The vehicles were prohibited from moving and the loads were re-secured. The driver was issued a Prohibition Clearance Certificate to remove the prohibition. The vehicles were only allowed to continue their journey after they met all the safety requirements.

Sussex Roads Police reminded all drivers to ensure their vehicle is safe and legal to use on the roads. If you are stopped by police and found to be breaking the law, you may be issued with a fixed penalty notice, have your vehicle seized or even be prosecuted.
