More than 100 vehicles were checked in Newmarket during a multi-agency day of action that resulted in the arrest of seven people.

The operation took place to disrupt criminal activity, including that of organised crime groups that operate across county boundaries and use the road network.

Of the individuals detained on the day, five were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, one was arrested for cannabis possession, and one was charged with driving while prohibited.

Among the 105 traffic offence reports issued, four were for exceeding a weight limit, three for driving other than in accordance with their licence, and two for non-compliance with vehicle insurance laws.

Suffolk police and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, as well as HM Revenue & Customs, the Home Office Immigration Enforcement, the Motor Insurers Bureau, and West Suffolk Council Waste Enforcement officials, carried out the operation.
